Little Salt Creek Watershed Project
Little Salt Creek Watershed Project
The efforts to restore and enhance saline wetlands was recently highlighted in ArcNews, a quarterly newsletter published by ESRI. Our consulting partners at the Flatwater Group were featured for their techniques which provided the basis for a large watershed project bringing in much-needed funding for restoration of these imperiled wetlands. Located near Lincoln, these unique wetlands harbor rare species such as the Salt Creek Tiger Beetle and Saltwort plant. Preservation and restoration of these saline wetlands is critical as urban development, levee construction, and stream-channel straightening has severely impacted this unique natural resource. The Lower Platte South NRD - one of several partners comprising the Saline Wetlands Conservation Partnership - continues to raise awareness and educate the public about Nebraska’s eastern saline wetlands.
