Farm Pond

The purpose of this program is to assist landownders in the design and construction of dams for the purpose of providing water for livestock and wildlife. The water could also be used for recreation, flood storage and grade stabilization.

Eligible sites: Farm pond drainage areas must have at least 75% of the land treated with terraces or permanent vegetation. Drainage areas of the proposed dam should be at least 30 acres and not more than 320 acres. For sites with drainages of approximately 30 acres or less, the NRCS should advise you if a water and sediment control basin could best meet your needs. Drainage areas of more than 320 acres will likely be cost
prohibitive to design and build under this program.

Process: Meet with your NRCS technician for input on the proposed site for the dam, estimated size of the drainage area and percentage of the drainage area that is adequately treated.
Apply if your site is technically feasible and meets the criteria for eligible sites.

How to Apply: Have NRCS calculate the size and percentage of land treatment in the drainage area and estimate the cost of the structure. On an aerial photo, mark the proposed dam site. Mail this map, the information and the application form located on the facing page to the LPSNRD
office.
